MINING IDENTITY is a family portrait created in 2002 from three sets of fingerprints: my daughter, Finola, her father, Ransom and myself. Fingerprints are “indexical signifiers”of the uniqueness of individual identity. My interest is in the intersection of geography and genetic coding and the horizon of that new landscape. The relief of the wax prints were formed with dental tools and a culinary torch, layered with alkyd glazes blotted with paper towels. The paper towels can be see on the page Impressions.
