Shelter In Place

The animals series emerged from the years of the Boise Guest House. Fragility, vulnerability and financial focus marked this time as I became interested in how we perceive animal imagery as decoration. Trophy heads and antlers emerged as popular decor in the past decade, yet it is the heritage of generations of Idaho hunting families. Repetition of imagery both marks time and yet desensitizes us to the passage of time much like we have become disengaged with the animal as a being and relate to it only as a trophy or food. My thoughts about cultural identity are called to question as I watch elephants being murdered for their tusks; yet we hunt and slaughter elk on a regular basis in Idaho.
